Physicians should definitely consider this POWERFUL app that is SIMPLE to install and use. The app extracts selected patient information directly from the EMR and prints a wallet sized bifold card that is handed to patient at end of an appointment. Card can be updated at subsequent appointments as necessary.

Card Contains:

  • List of medications
  • Allergies
  • Immunizations
  • Medical conditions/problems
  • Contact information
  • Primary Physician
  • Medical Specialist
  • Family

Presentation of this card to the Patient will:

  • Enhance the Dr./Patient relationship and communications
  • Bolster level of care
  • Possibly save your Patients life
  • Make you feel good
  • Make patient feel good
  • Possibly assist in retention
  • Increase word-of-mouth accolades

THE PROBLEM

After patients leave your office they are basically on their own to deal with any medical issues. Most Doctors give the patient a Visit Summary or provide access to Patient Portals. Only a small percentage of people actually use the portal and the Visit Summary is filed away at home.

  • When visiting other medical specialist the patient often relies on their memory for the "fill out the forms" routine - they seldom have accurate hard copy information with them. The Patient Portal is of no use unless Patient has taken the initiative to print out the most recent update and bring a copy. This seldom happens.
  • In emergencies the situation is even worse. When the adrenaline kicks in the ability to accurately recall medical information is almost nonexistent. The problem is further exacerbated if the patient is unable to communicate.

THE SOLUTION

Physician hands patients the Medical Profile Card at the end of an office visit. All the patient has to do is put the card in their wallet or purse. Information is 100% accurate and up to date as of that moment.

  • Patient uses card for the "fill out the forms" routine with other medical specialist and it will be available in their wallet in event of an emergency. Having medical information available for First Responders and ER personnel will greatly improve the chance of correct treatment - maybe even be life saving.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  • Medical Profile Card is the ONLY solution that extracts information directly from the patient EMR and prints a card that can be handed to patient at end of an office visit.
  • No data entry is required. Information is extracted with a couple of keystrokes.
  • Handing the patient a tangible touch and feel card has significant impact. It clearly illustrates that you have gone the extra mile! Patients strongly relate to this and immediately realize the value of this PERK. They will tell all their friends.
  • Increased patient satisfaction Feeling of personal attention and service Feeling of security by having information at their fingertips.
  • Speeds effective communications To confirm understanding of medications With other physicians and providers so they know about health conditions, medications and how to contact Primary.
  • Improves overall patient communications Assures DR and patient are in complete agreement on medications Helps verify medications when at home Extra card could be shared with spouse or caregivers..

COMPETING SOLUTIONS

Phone apps, notes in the wallet and other on line apps designed to address this issue do NOT work for a variety of reasons.

  • They require patient to enter the data themselves and to keep updated. This is a problem because transcription of medical data by non medical individuals (patients) are prone to error. Also patients do not maintain updating over the long term. All of these factors result in erroneous data or obsolete information that could be life threatening.
  • First Responders and ER personnel have stated that it is virtually impossible to retrieve information from cell phones due to the constantly changing models, vast variety of phones and the need for passwords and pin numbers.
